The local heat of the Rotary Young Vocalist Competition was held on Wednesday 12th November, at the Morlais Hall, Ferndale.
An excellent turnout with nine students, representing six schools, as shown below, made for an enjoyable and competitive afternoon.
The accompanist for the competition was Stewart Roberts and adjudicating were
Fred Nicholas and John Asquith.

Each competitor received a certificate from Rhondda Rotary President Martyn Lyons for their entry, but like all competitions there can only be one winner.
After much deliberation, the adjudicators decision was that the winner was:
Miley Goss from Ysgol Garth Olwg.
Unfortunately Miley along with her fellow student Awen, had to leave before the competition ended, so sadly we don’t have a photograph of her receiving her winner’s certificate.
Miley now goes forward to the Rotary District Final and hopefully the National Final, which will be held in April 2026.
Ysgol Garth Olwg also receive a Shield to display at the school for the next year.
A big thank you to not only the students for entering, but also to Stewart, Fred and John, for their continued support of the competition and valuable advise offered to the students.
Congratulations to Miley and good luck in the future competitions.
The Rotary Young Instrumentalist Competition will be held on 26th November, at the same venue.
