THE CONCRETE SNAKE

A BBC One drama set in the Valleys

TOMMY GILLARD (Director / Co-writer):

I hope this email finds you well. My name is Tommy Gillard, and I’m a TV and film writer/director currently developing a BBC One drama set in the Valleys titled THE CONCRETE SNAKE, produced by Clerkenwell Films (makers of Baby Reindeer).

Me and my co-creator Sion Thomas are currently based in Treorchy, meeting and speaking to people about life in the Rhondda Valley to help inform the script.

Our hope is to better understand the experience of living in the Rhondda Valley today. We thought that as the Rotary Club is such an important part of the community, you would be a really interesting and vital group of people to speak to.

Well we met last week and very entertaining it was. Tommy asked some leading questions and let us go.

Once members were off the leash there was no holding back. Out came all those old stories of tin baths, donkeys in front rooms…well not really but I believe that Tommy got essence and feel of living and growing up in the Rhondda.

We know that he has also spoken to some youth from Treorchy Comp so there can be a comparison between then and now.

Rhondda rotary wish Tommy and Sion (co-writer) all the best and we look forward to seeing the results of their efforts.
