At the first meeting in the New year of the Narberth & Whitland Rotary two guests were introduced to the members by Rotarian Ken Morgan.
The two young ladies were both instrumental in making a great success of the inaugural Narberth Santa Run in December which had been organised by the club. The ladies enjoyed a delicious meal at The Plas Hotel created by Executive Chef Carl and they were well received by the large gathering of male and female Rotarians.
Ken explained that Cath Macphee, his niece, had been an enthusiastic supporter of the charitable event and she managed to “recruit” 51 participants using her many and varied contacts.
The other guest, Victoria Wells, known as Tori, is in fact a volunteer Staff Sergeant of the Narberth Detachment of Army cadets based in the Narberth Town Moor lower car park building. To assist with marshals on the day of the Santa Run Tori had brought along 15 young cadets who performed brilliantly guiding entrants around the course and making sure they were safe.
During the evening the ladies kindly gave an insight into their work; Cath is a specialist nurse at Withybush Hospital dealing with clinical trials of different drugs for the treatment of cancer, and Tori teaches the teenage cadets basic skills in canoeing, abseiling, rock Climbing and general army drills including how to iron their uniforms!
Before the evening finished President Elaine announced that Narberth Swimming Pool charity was desperate to raise funds for an important pump which needs replacement. Without hesitation the members agreed to use some of the proceeds of the Santa Run and they donated £300 towards the cost. Previously £1,000 had been donated from the fund for the Trussell Trust Narberth Food Bank. So all the participants who entered the event can be justly proud that their efforts aided two very good and worthwhile charities.
