President Mary Adams of The Rotary Club of Narberth has had a very successful year in the chair culminating in a well-attended feedback meeting at The Hotel Plas Hyfryd, Narberth. The purpose of the evening was to distribute cheques to some of the beneficiaries of the latest Welsh Dragon Boat Championship 2017. A total of over £8,500 was raised this year thanks to the 14 teams who competed plus generous sponsorship from Hywel Griffiths & Sons Ltd, Folly Farm and Care in Hand plus a host of advertisers.
The captains of the competing teams were invited to attend and the positive feedback that has been received by the club has ensured that this annual event is now firmly established and will take place again in 2018. Commitments have already been made by 9 of the teams that they will re-enter. There are also 3 or 4 teams also likely to return so this augurs well for next year. The sponsors have also agreed to continue their financial backing so the club is extremely grateful to them all.
At the start of the evening Rotarian Barbara Rumbold had the pleasure of presenting a certificate to a pupil from Ysgol y Preseli who won the Rotary District competition for Young photographer. Barbara explained that Rhys Rogers was a worthy winner and he was warmly applauded by the audience.
The theme for the Welsh Dragon Boat Championship this year was “Mental Health and later in the evening cheques were handed out to Taf QT ( a dementia club in Whitland); Living Memories Group (based at Narberth Museum); MIND; HAFAL; Combat Stress (An army charity); Adlerian Counselling Service and, Cwm Seren.
Earlier in the month President Mary also had the pleasure of presenting a cheque to rugby legend Derek Quinnell from Proceeds of a raffle which had been held when Derek came to speak to the club. Derek supports the Ray Gravell and Friends Charitable trust.
In July Mary will be handing her chain of office to David Haward and members are looking forward to another successful year of fun and fellowship. One of the last official duties in Mary’s year was to induct a new member Donna Jones into the club. Equally, David will be keen to promote the club’s activities.
