LifeStraw

The Rotary Club of Mumbles is pleased to support our colleagues in the Rotary Club of Brynmawr who organise the distribution of LifeStraw to locations throughout the World where clean, safe water is not available to people.

The need for safe drinking water is denied to many people in this world. Every 15 seconds a child will die because of drinking unsafe water. We are committed by the year 2015 to provide this basic human right (United Nations)

Rotarians are committed to help all those in need and consider that access to safe water is a basic human right and necessity; therefore our efforts and energies are focused on providing safe water wherever a need is identified.

Providing LifeStraw is a major contribution to saving lives particularly those of young children.

Did you Know

780 million people in the world lack access to an improved source for drinking water.

61 percent of people in sub-Saharan Africa do not have access to safe drinking water.

Lack of access to safe drinking water contributes to the staggering burden of diarrhoeal disease worldwide.

Nearly one in five child deaths about 1.5 million each year is due to diarrhoea.

Point-of-use (POU) treatments such as LifeStraw can accelerate the health gains associated with the provision of safe drinking water to at-risk populations.

Improvement of drinking-water quality could lead to a 45% reduction of diarrhoea episodes.

Water filters have been shown to be the most effective for reducing diarrheal diseases.

LifeStraw Family is the backbone of the LifeStraw Carbon for Water campaign in Kenya, which is providing more than 4.5 million Kenyans with sustainable access to clean and safe drinking water.

What is a LifeStraw?

LifeStraw filters convert contaminated water into clean, safe drinking water.  The easy-to-use filters are a vital tool for some of the 780 million people who do not have access to safe drinking water.  This leaves them at risk for diarrhoeal disease, which kills more than 1.5 million people every year.  Safe drinking water is especially important for vulnerable people such as children under five, pregnant women and individuals living with HIV.

A Family LifeStraw costs only 30

It allows people to create their own homemade drinking water. It gives them access to safe and clean drinking water, by allowing them to have a stable and reliable source of water for home consumption. This will filter up to 18,000 litres of water - enough to supply a family of five with safe drinking water for three years

Easy to Use

Anyone who can use a drinking straw can use a Personal LifeStraw. Simply draw the unfiltered water through the LifeStraw to make it clean and safe.  The family model uses gravity rather than suction'
