The outgoing President of the the Club, Gareth Rees, handed over to new President Anthony Pugh.
In thanking the club for its support this year, Gareth, a former VicePrincipal of Atlantic College and now a chief examiner for the International Baccalaureate Examination, outlined some of the events the club has beeninvolved with during a busy year. These included, amongst others, help withthe Llantwit Major School's Interact Club, assistance for members of thepartially sighted Insight Club, the adoption and monitoring of Llantwit Major Railway Station, help with the annual Marie Currie collection, assistance to the local Scouts,ShelterBox gifts for overseas disasters and Spectacles for Africa.The club has continued to support the Rotary worldwide initiative PolioPlus., which has brought polio close to eradication. Gareth was alsopleased that the club had also grown in size this year.
Gareth then handed over the presidency to Rotarian Anthony Pugh. Anthony isa long-time member of the Rotary Club and is a solicitor and recentlyretired Tribunal Judge. He was accompanied by his wife, Mary. Anthony saidthat he was pleased to be able to take over a very successful club fromGareth Rees and thanked him, on behalf of all attending the dinner, for his
outstanding leadership. Finally he was pleased to induct Rotarian GeoffJones, a former accountant, as the new President Elect.
Also attending the dinner as guests of the club were Archdeacon PhillipMorris, President of Llantwit Major Probus Club and his wife, Sheila.Probus, the organisation for retired people in the town was initiated by theRotary Club of Llantwit Major over thirty years ago and has gone from
strength to strength.
