Young Musician Competition (vocalist)

The first round of the local Rotary Young Musician Competition for vocalists, organised by Llantwit Major Rotary Club, was held at Cowbridge School on Wednesday 22nd November. There were 5 competitors, all of whom were accompanied by Adrian Colborne, Head of Performing Arts at Cowbridge School, assisted by his colleague Rhian Hughes. First to perform was Rhianna Hogg who sang ‘Caro Mio Ben’ by Giordani followed by ‘Somewhere over the rainbow’ by Harold Arlen from ‘The Wizard of Oz’. Rhianna was followed by Tara Nathan performing 'When daisies pied' by Thomas Arne and 'I feel pretty' from 'West Side Story' by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim. Megan Lowrie sang ‘Vergebliches Standchen’ by Brahms and ‘My ship’ by Kurt Weill and Ira Gershwin from ‘Lady in the Dark’. The next performance was by India Maurice with ‘Gimme gimme’ from the musical ‘Thoroughly Modern Millie’ and ‘Burn’ from the musical ‘Hamilton’. The only male performer, Patrick Sheppard, completed the performances with ‘Amarilli Mia Bene’ by Caccini and ‘Mr Cellophane’ by Kander & Ebb from the musical ‘Chicago’.
