The Rotary Club of Llantwit Major and the Stroke Association have been working in partnership for a number of years to help combat high blood pressure, the single biggest factor for stroke. On Saturday 28th April a very successful event was held in the shopping precinct in Llantwit Major where 80 people had their blood pressure tested. Of these, 3 people had dangerously high blood pressure.
The President of Llantwit Major Rotary Club, Neville Farthing, said We are very happy to have been able to offer this service to the community. If we find only one person whose blood pressure is too high then we may have helped to save a life.
Each year an estimated 150,000 people across the UK will have a stroke. It is one of the top three causes of death and the single largest cause of adult disability. There are often no symptoms of high blood pressure, so that these measurements are vitally important.
