President Neville Farthing with his wife Janet

Monday evening, fourth of July, saw the start of the new Rotary year in Llantwit Major with the installation of President Neville Farthing.  The event began in traditional manner with a service of dedication at St Donats church conducted by Rotarian The Revd. D. Vivian Ginn.  Singing was led by Cantorion Illtud accompanied by Lynn Brown with Keith Young conducting.  The choir's solo pieces included the famous Welsh hymn, 'Tydi a Roddaist' by Arwel Hughes.

Following the service the party moved on to West House Country Hotel, Llantwit Major, for dinner.  Guests included the President Elect of Cowbridge Mr Andrew Lane accompanied by his wife, Ruth and the Chairman of Llantwit Major Probus Club Mr Eric Sparks with his wife, Anne.  The outgoing President, Jasper Roberts, thanked club members for their support during the year and outlined the many organisations that the club had been able to help.  He wished Neville Farthing every good wish for the future before installing him with the chain of office.

The new president  moved to Llantwit Major with his wife Janet eleven years ago having previously lived near Taunton in Somerset where he had had a successful career in marketing.  During that time he was President of Taunton Vale Rotary Club and so is able to bring the experience of that role to Llantwit.  He reminded guests that the Llantwit Major club this year celebrates its thirtieth anniversary and for almost the whole of that time had been privileged to celebrate the presidential handover with the accompaniment of Cantorion Illtud.  Co-incidentally, this year Cantorion  has also been celebrating its own thirtieth anniversary.  It has been a wonderful association for which all in the club were most grateful.

President Neville then inducted Rotarian John Clarke, from St Donats, with the chain of office of President Elect.
