Rotary Llanelli Promotes Child Safety with Welsh Language Book

Rotary Llanelli's "Gwylia!" project: Empowering Welsh children with safety skills through a community-translated book. From local school involvement to a star-studded launch at Parc Y Scarlets, discover how we're nurturing safety and culture.

Julie Jones, President Elect of Rotary Llanelli, presents

Rotary Llanelli's President Elect, Julie Jones, recently presented a supply of Gwylia! books to Rhian Francis, head teacher of Ysgol Pum Heol (Five Roads School). This initiative underscores our club's commitment to child safety and the promotion of the Welsh language.

Gwylia! is the Welsh language version ofWatch Out!, a book designed to help children identify potential dangers and develop strategies to manage them. The project was a true community effort, with pupils from Ysgol Pum Heol heavily involved in its preparation. In fact, nearly all the pupils at the school are featured in the book.

Llanelli Rotary played a crucial role in facilitating the translation of the book. The illustrations, many of which were originally drawn by school children, were carefully reworked in Welsh by Welsh-speaking pupils.

The Welsh-language book was officially launched at Parc Y Scarlets. The event was graced by celebrity guests Zinzan Brooke, the former All Blacks rugby player, and Steve Brown, the TV personality and former wheelchair rugby Paralympian.

This project exemplifies Rotary Llanelli's dedication to serving our community, promoting education, and preserving our Welsh heritage. We're proud to support initiatives that empower our children and strengthen our cultural bonds.
