Local lad has first taste of leadership

Kyle Thomas overcame his nerves to take to the stage at the last Rotary Llanelli meeting and tell members about his experience at the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards.

Kyle Thomas

Local lad Kyle Thomas has had his first taste of leading teams at the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards. He overcame his nerves to talk to members of Rotary Llanelli about the experience.

He reported on the challenging time he had had canoeing, caving and gorge-walking. He particularly enjoyed the thrill of jumping into the water when gorge-walking, and was pleased that he overcame his fear of being underground in tight spaces when he was caving. Unfortunately, the group's night hike up Pen y Fan, the highest peak in the Brecon Beacons, had to be abandoned due to inclement conditions.

Every participant, including Kyle, had a chance to lead the others in a team - a challenge he rose to with enthusiasm.

The Rotary Youth Leadership Awards are events that are designed to help young people develop communication and problem-solving skills and unlock their potential to become leaders in the community. Participants are nominated by their local Rotary club and the costs of the course are covered from Rotary funds. If you know someone who would benefit from a similar experience or you would like to take part yourself, please get in touch.
