In these days of lockdown with no meetings (except online) and no fundraising events, Rotary Club members around the world are looking for different ways to raise money for charities that are supporting their local communities.
The Knighton Rotary Club is no different and member Angie Ellis had the great idea of doing a marathon in her garden to raise money for the Club’s charity account.
This is Angie’s account of the three days she took to undertake this feat “End of day 1: I have completed the first 10 miles around the garden – Keith ( Angie’s husband and fellow Rotarian ) has been keeping score and making sure I don’t cheat! I do have a few blisters but will wear extra thick socks tomorrow. End of day 2: Thankfully I had a stash of blister plasters for yesterday’s sore spots, so with two pairs of socks and comfy trainers I have completed the second ten miles of the marathon. Phew 20 miles down and 6 more to go to be tackled tomorrow…..now tending to today’s sore feet. End of day 3: Well I did it! 380 circuits around my garden completed. I must confess this morning and the last 6 miles were the worse. But I did it, and Keith will verify this fact as he counted each and every circuit. It seemed appropriate somehow that the finish line ribbon was a toilet roll! For those who have generously sponsored me I thank you from the bottom of my very sore, very blistered feet! “
We are delighted to say that, as of mid-April, Angie has raised over £500 towards the money we are offering to charities that support our community in Knighton, Presteigne and beyond. Great news, many thanks to everyone and many congratulations to club member Angie for her achievement, enthusiasm and sacrifice! A true Rotarian indeed.
