This afternoon we hosted a concert for five Young Musicians from Abergavenny, Builth Wells and Crickhowell in St Edward's Church Hall, Knighton. The musicians, comprising; two vocalists, a drummer, a harpist and a pianist, each played their music selection to a delighted audience of 45 people, including three experienced judges Graham Trew, Catherine O'Rourke and Margaret Davis. The members of Knighton Rotary Club provided tea and cakes throughout the concert, at the conclusion of which the judges provided feedback to each contestant, with Knighton Rotary President Chris Price awarding winning certificates to Mabli Jones for her solo vocal, which included Anfonal Angel by Robert Arwyn and drummer, Eifion Davies, for his performance, which included Mind the Gaps by Kit Morgan.
The Young Musician Competition is one of a range of competitions, including Young Writer and Young Photographer, run by Rotary Clubs across the UK, all designed to provide young people with the opportunity to showcase their talent in their chosen discipline. The winners of each local competition proceed to the next round and both Eifion and Mabli will now proceed to the regional competition being held at Islwyn High School on 29 February, which is open to the public from 1 p.m. for anyone wishing to attend.
