On Sunday 11th of January nine talented youngsters performed to an appreciative audience and three judges in the first round of the Rotary Young Musician competition at St Edwards Church Hall in Knighton. These young musicians aged between 11 and 17 years old performed between two and three pieces each on their favourite instruments and wowed everyone with their capabilities. However, competition judges Graham Trew, Elizabeth Richey and Igor Kennaway were unanimous in their decision to award 15 year old harpist Glenda Allway first prize and the opportunity to travel to Builth Wells on March 14th for the next round of the competition. She will compete with young musicians representing 10 other Rotary Clubs in mid Wales for the opportunity to play in Cardiff in May. President David Barwick of the Rotary Club of Knighton and District who organised the event said "We are very proud to have Glenda representing our Rotary Club in the next round of the Rotary Young Musician competition. However all of the youngsters have given excellent performances and everyone enjoyed the concert very much. We hope this will become an annual event and we have had students from all parts of our District showing that there is a real wealth of musical talent out there!"
