Amy Johnson, who looks after fundraising in Shropshire and South Staffs and organises events and volunteers, gave us an interesting talk on Marie Curie which has been in existence since 1948. Marie Curie is a Charity which deals mainly with terminal cancer care but which is now starting to deal with other terminal cases. They run 9 hospices and provide services in other hospices giving overnight care for people in their own homes during their final days. They have recently started a phone line service giving practical and emotional support to anyone who has received a terminal diagnosis and their families and friends. The Charity also funds research into terminal care, last year giving £1million to 9 research projects. They receive many more applications but funds, and strict guidelines, limit the number of projects. Amy was thankedfor her interesting talk and presented with a donation of £50.
