This was an excellent evening, as could be predicted by the thespian qualities of many of our members! The food and service at the Castle was very good too http://thecastleinn-wigmore.com/ They allowed us time between courses for the entertainers to take the "stage", usually under the portrait of the Queen, where there was enough light to read scripts! You will see photos of most of the people taking part in the performances but here is a summary of our Club's talent:
Howard was first off, reciting an Irish tongue twister that may have been difficult after a few drinks! Later in the evening he told an Irish nun joke, which he can do because he himself is Irish.....Norman told a number of golfing sayings and a couple of other jokes......Kevin read a lovely piece of prose called Captain Indecisive ( or did he? )....Ann told a number of very good jokes.....Sheila also told some jokes as well as, in her role as President, welcomed everyone, including guests Sylvie, Bruce, Chris, Sandie, Peter and Mary.....Dorothy recited her own entertaining poem which was up to her usual high standards........Paul told us about Trevor and his plastic stacker chair ( the men were feeling quite sympathetic for poor Trev ).....Ivan recited a story about an 18 inch piantist ( you don't want to know!) ......Cathy analysed everyone by their preference of biccies to dunk......Honorary member Roy told us of his involvement in filling the foyer of the Savoy in London with shoes.....Ian did a wonderful piece of theatre involving most of the club ( with Sheila centre stage!) .....and Carolyn did a poetry reading to contrast with Ian's piece.....Such talent and a lot of fun......
There were a few other highlights of the evening including Ivan receiving a well deserved Paul Harris award from President Sheila, Ian winning the Verney Pugh fellowship award for his themed food evenings and Ann winning the Richard Morgan award for the best entertainment of the evening ( as voted for by our guests Christine, Sylvie, Bruce & Sandie, Peter & Mary). But most of all it was thanks to Dorothy for her excellent organisation of the evening ( arranging seating, menus and order of players) and to everyone who contributed to another memorable President's night.....and remember in exactly two years time the Rotary Club of Knighton and District will be 40 years old! That will be a night to remember.....
