Last year we donated some money to Army Cadet Stephanie for her trip to Peru to plant huarango trees, with the support of " Plant your future" and Kew gardens where the seedlings were raised. These trees establish themselvesin 3 years and have 80 metre roots which absorb water and create a microenvironment for other plants to grow.This in turn allows local villagers to change their lives in any ways. You can find out more at http://www.kew.org/science/tropamerica/peru/index.html Steph gave us an inspiring account of her 2 week travel in one of the driest parts of Peru where the haurango forests had been decimated and of the 2000 trees she helped to plant. A life changing experience for her and an excellent example of how volunteering can have many benefits.....
