Transport for Wales have an 'Adopt a Station' Scheme to help keep their unstaffed stations clean and pleasant. Club members regularly go to the Lisvane Thornhill station to provide at least two reports a month on the condition of the station. This makes the maintenance team aware of problems so they can be addressed.
The Club creates and looks after the floral displays at the station providing a summer and winter display. The team regularly waters the plants to keep them in the best condition possible.
The Club receives regular feedback from station users who appreciate our work and the floral displays.
Eight club members went to the station on 7 June 2022 to plant seven boxes with summer plants which will be at their best between July and September.
A recent post on the Llanishen and Thornhill Community page said:
"Many thanks to the men and women of Cardiff East Rotary Club for providing the lovely planters at Lisvane and Thornhill railway station. Cheered me up on a grey rainy morning on my way to London"
On the 11 September 2023, the Club’s station team took a break from watering flowers at Lisvane Thornhill station. Instead we boarded the Transport for Wales train to Shrewsbury for a visit. Members took a boat trip down the River Severn, visited some of the sights before taking a well earned meal. We then returned to our station in Cardiff by train.
Tueday 17 September 2023 saw members planting the winter boxes to brighten up teh shortening days.
