We were delighted to welcome Kathryn and Fiona, pictured above with President Paul, to our June dinner meeting. Kathryn is the daughter of our member Barrie Ball and his wife Stephanie.
Uganda is one of the world’s youngest countries, nearly half of the population is under 15 years old, meaning millions of children need access to education and opportunities every year.
Around 8 in 10 children aged 6–12 attend primary school, but only about 1 in 4 attend secondary school. Costs such as uniforms, books, transport and fees remain major barriers and UNICEF reports that education related costs account for around 60% of school dropouts.

Care for Uganda provides education, health and community support. Individual children are sponsored, including the costs of their schools fees and uniforms. Examples of health support are the motorbike ambulances, 8 of which have been provided to date. Community support includes improvements to basic hygiene, livestock provision and solar lamps that enable the children to do their homework and housework.
