Rotarian Ron Eccles, our International Team Lead, gave a very informative presentation about our international project, Medicines Sans Frontieres (MSF).
Founded in 1971 in the aftermath of the Nigerian civil war, MSF is a private international association made up of doctors and health sector workers. MSF provides assistance to populations in distress, to victims of natural or man-made disasters and to victims of armed conflict.
From its inception, MSF has proved itself to be unlike any other NGO, remaining fiercely independent of both governments and institutions and is not afraid to speak out about injustices. In recognition of its services, MSF was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999.

With a worldwide presence, MSF employs around 45,000 staff, many who risk their lives. To take just one example, in 2025 at Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza 15 MSF staff were killed and many injured.
98% of funds to support MSF are from private donors such as Rotary Bridgend. We have raised over £1,000 for MSF and Interact Clubs have additional raised funds. Below is a thank you we have received from MSF.

Following his presentation, Ron showed a short video providing an overview of MSF. The video can be viewed by clicking this link - https://youtu.be/Uoq2EG3BpS4?si=nqbhirtGhLKsnEqt
Ron then aswered a number of questions from our members before President Paul thanked him for giving us such great insight into our international project.
