We were kindly invited to be part of the Community Open Day on Saturday 18th October and the Official In-School Celebration on Friday 24th October.
For the Open Day, a Rotary Bridgend stand was installed in the assembly hall together with pull up banners with a table covered with a large collection of Rotary leaflets covering a cross section of topics.
President Paul and four members attended and listened to the newly formed school choir singing Calon Lan and the very 'catchy' Coety school song.
In addition, it was wonderful to see that the RotaKids had set up their own stand where items such as scented candles and 10th Anniversary key rings were for sale. Also, the RotaKids had packaged the crocus corms for sale and used the Polio Plus literature provided by Foundation as part of their sales [see below].
This day also provided members an opportunity to talk to attendees about Rotary.
For the Official Day, we again had our Rotary Stand on one side of the podium in the assembly hall and President Paul and four Members attended together with local councillors and the school governors. The school choir performed again in front of the whole school. Headteacher Jonathan Lewis led the proceedings and President Paul was invited to address the school and mentioned the close link given our previous community project with planting fruit trees and the donation of a weather station, plus the very active Rotakids group that has now existed for over three years, and also the assistance provided by Members during STEM week.
As a group we were given a very informative conducted tour of the school and various classes, by three pupils, and joined by one of the school governors.
Finally, we were invited to attend the special ceremony to 'bury' a time capsule on the school grounds.
This was a most enjoyable experience, as agreed by all that attended, and we look forward to a continued connection via the Youth Team, and in that vein, President Paul has been invited to a Q & A session on the Coety School Radio.
Members that kindly attended were:- President Paul, Alan Reeks, Derek Gaynor, Brian and Joan Murrell, and Catherine and William Williams.
