This month’s ramble took us on a relatively short walk (2.5 miles) to the Brombil Blue Lagoon (Brombil Reservoir) in Margam. An old 18th century 100ft deep disused coal mine, that was flooded to provide water for the old Port Talbot docks.

The weather was calm and sunny, ideal walking conditions. Starting at the Twelve Knights Hotel,11 ramblers made their way to Brombil village via M4 underpass. The route then took us up the Brombil valley following the stream created by the Reservoir.

After a very pleasant steady start alongside the babbling stream, the path became a little steeper but worth following for the views of the blue water in the Reservoir.

The return journey took us halfway back down the valley at which point we turned off to follow the old carting route across the mountain face giving views of the once mighty steel works and across the bay to Swansea and Mumbles.

On our return to the carpark, refreshments and a meal were enjoyed at the Twelve Knights Hotel in Margam.
