Dinner Meeting at the Heronston Hotel

Mon, Aug 4th 2025 at 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Guest speaker: Harold Williams "Honey bees and their importance"

At our August dinner we had an excellent talk from Harold Williams, aided by his wife Barbara, both from the Cardiff Beekeeping Association. Indeed, it was at the Association where they met.

With over 40 years beekeeping experience, Harold gave a most interesting and informative presentation, here are some of the key facts:

-          Honeybees are a key species in plant pollination

-          There are between 60,000 and 70,000 bees in each hive

-          Only females who will become queens survive the winter

-          Queens live for around 5 years and are totally dependent on their daughters

-          Starting in the spring, the queen lays between 1,000 and 2,000 eggs per day

Harold answered a number of questions from the audience begore Rotarian Robert Reeks gave thanks for a wonderful talk.
