We were delighted to welcome our newest member Robert Reeks, pictured at the end of his induction with President Win Griffiths. Rob is well know to several members and has often joined the monthly Rotary Rambles.
Our guest speaker was Rotarian Jeremy Holt who joined us from Swindon. Jeremy gave a most interesting talk on the Special Operations Executive during the Second World War.
Instigated by wartime Prime Minister Winston Churchill, the Special Operations Executive (SOE) was an underground army tasked with waging a secret war in enemy-occupied Europe and Asia. Its agents demonstrated incredible courage and resourcefulness in their guerilla war and, by working with resistance forces, they provided a boost to the morale of occupied people.
The training the selected agents received, their operations and the risks if captured were brought to life by Jeremy's own experiences when training with Special Forces during his time with the Territorial Army.
