With 30 years experience researching upper respiratory diseases, Professor Ron gave us a most informative and interesting talk on how best to treat the common cold.
There are three main treatments - hot drinks, paracetamol and decongestant.
Even a simple hot blackcurrant squash drink is enough to sooth the sore throat and cough. Paracetamol helps to ease muscle pains and fever - the supermarket own brands are as effective as more expensive options. A nasal spray decongestant reduces that blocked nose feeling.
Ron answered a number of members' questions and was then thanks by Hopkin Joseph for sharing his experiences and findings with us.
We eagerly await Ron's next talk on how to prevent the common cold!
Our meeting was tinged with some sadness as past President, and last year's District Governor, Wayne Morgan made his farewells as this week he moves to Hampshire. Having joined Rotary Bridegend in 2010, and being our first member, to be District Governor he will be missed by all. Wayne will continue to be a member of Rotary Bridgend and join our meetings on Zoom when he is able and to join us in person when he is back in our area. Best wishes to Wayne and Marilyn as they start a new chapter in their lives.
