After a break of four years due to the Covid outbreak, the Youth Team of Rotary Bridgend reconnected with Schools in the Borough and extended invitations for entries in the longstanding tradition.
With the very kind help of the Headteacher, it was agreed that the event would be held at Coety School on the evening of the ninth of May, and ten schools took part, including a representative from a Welsh medium school. The RotaKids from Coety School helped with the distribution of the programmes, which were kindly produced by a Rotarian.
Three members of Bridgend Rotary kindly agreed to be the adjudicators and another member was the MC for the evening.
The Young Speakers had chosen an interesting variety of topics, which were appreciated by a large turnout of teachers, family members, Rotarians from other Clubs, Welsh Assembly member, Borough Council representatives and School Governors.
President Robin Bratton presented all the participants with Certificates which were kindly produced by a Rotarian.
The first and second Runners Up were from Coety and Plasnewydd Primary Schools respectively.
The overall winner represented Ffaldau Primary School.
Three prizes were presented by President Robin with the Winner also receiving a Rotary Shield.
Rotary Southern Wales District Governor Wayne Morgan MBE thanked everyone involved, followed by a kind input and summary of the evening by the Corporate Director, Education and Family Support, Lindsay Harvey.
Positive feedback has been received from a number of schools expressing their thanks to Rotary Bridgend for providing this opportunity for their pupils.
