William Williams provided an updated on last Friday's Rotary Bridgend visit to Coety school and the members of Rotakids there. The weather station we have provided was presented to the teacher.

Our newest member, Barrie Ball, has arranged a visit to the Garw Valley Railway Centre on 16th November, again please see the event item for more information.

District Governor Wayne Morgan gave details of the one day Rotary Conference to be held at the Miskin Manor on Saturday 22nd April 2023. The them will be Poverty and Rotary International.

The next round of the District Quiz will be away to Cwmtawe, a date of Wenesday 30th November has been proposed.

Phil Davies - A Career with South Wales Police
Phil initially joined the police cadets in 1970 and was posted to Barry Police Station. He was then fortunate enough to be selected for a 6 month trip through Europe to Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

After his initial training in Bridgend, Phil started two year probation in Barry on foot patrols before progressing to becoming an instructore of the Police Cadets. Phil also trained to be a part of the Force's underwater search capability.

Phil next spent 2 years in Cwmbran training new recruits before being again posted to foot patrols, this time in Ely, Cardiff. Rising though the ranks, Phil became an Inspector in Bridgend and during this time trained as a hostage negotiator. Phil was then asked to conduct a 12 month review of Custody Handling before being promoted to Chief Inspector, tasked with implementing the recommendations of this review.

Phil retired from the police in 2004, taking up positions in road safety cameras and civil parking.
