Seven walkers, and one beagle – Ben set out from the Fox pub on a warm and sunny day to enjoy this 4 mile walk. Once on top of Castle Down there were fine views across the common to Heol-y-Mynydd and its limestone quarries, and the Gower coast.
Descending down the steep path we crossed the dry river Alun at the ford alongside the stepping stones and made our way up to the Wick Road. Turning right we reached Wallas Farm and made our way over a series of stiles and down through Coed y Wallas.
Across the railway line we again crossed the river Alun via the clapper bridge and made our way up the lane passed the Coed y Bwl nature reserve and back to the car park.
After such exertions in exceptionally warm weather, a hearty meal and liquid refreshment was enjoyed in the Three Golden Cups at Southerndown.
