On a lovely sunny day,12 ramblers and 2 hounds set off from the Angel Inn, Maudlam on a circular walk around Kenfig Nature Reserve.
Heading across the main road and into the dunes, first stop was at the remains of Kenfig Castle a 12th century Norman fortification. Following the River Kenfig the group made their way through the reserve and onto Kenfig Sands. The beach stretches for 3 miles between Margam Moors and Sker Point. Fortunately the high tide did not cover the remains of HMV Altmark a wooden fishing boat that had come aground in 1960.
After walking along the beach a short way we traversed the tall dunes facing the sea and back into the reserve heading for the North side of Kenfig pool where various wildfowl could be viewed on the water.
On our return to the Angel a pre booked table awaited where lunch and beverages were enjoyed.
