Breakfast Meeting at the Heronston Hotel

This was a business meeting, confirming the officers for the next Rotary year; Robin Bratton as President, Paul Cheadle, President Elect and Wyn Griffiths, President Nominee.

President Elect Robin gave an update on our international project with the schools in Tanzania. Rotary Bridgend and Rotary Moshi in Tanzania have opened a Rotary Global Grant application. Called A Healthier Future for Kilimanjaro Region Schools, the aim is for Rotary Bridgend assisted by Rotary Swansea to fund the project. The project is planned to improve toilets and hand washing facilities at schools in the Kilimanjaro Region of Tanzania, where necessary this may involve renovating or building new facilities.

Community Service Team Lead Hopkin Joseph confirmed the Christmas supermarket collections. Treasurer Phil Davies presented the card reader we will be using and described the Santa poster that will be used - people will be able to tap their cards on the reader to donate £1 to local charities. 

A donation of £250 to KPC Youth and Community was approved. This donation will be doubled by the Big Give Christmas Challenge, providing additional funds to support the well-being of our younf people.

The highlight of the meeting was the annual presentation of the Harvey Palmer Cup. This was made by President John McCarthy to our Associate Member Michaela Moore, Director, Mental Health Matters Wales.

Michaela gave an update on the use of the activity projector that Rotary Bridgend provided funding for. This is now also being used to support patients at Ysbty'r Seren, helping more patients with dementia and their families.

Mental Health Matters Wales are providing further support in our community, including to Lads and Dads, a men-only mental health group with over 900 members online, and launching a Community Liaison service to help reduce the anxiety many are now experiencing when going out of their home.
