On a wet September morning, undeterred by the weather, four intrepid ramblers and one faithful hound set off from Laleston.
Heading cross country in the direction of the village of Tythegston, stopping off on the way at the Neolithic Longbarrow Tomb that has a large 13 ft by 6 ft solid top stone. Due to the subsidence and plant growth it is not as prominent as it used to be. On entering the village Tythegston Court could be clearly viewed, a family home in different formats has existed here since the 14th Century. After a short detour around St. Tydwg's Church grounds and a flooded lane, it was off to the high ground Cae Summerhouse, the remains of an Iron Age Fort.
Heading West across a grassy hill and
field the group skirted Merthyr Mawr village, heading for Whitney Farm and the
route home. On re-entering Laleston after the 6.5 mile wet ramble,
a quick count gave a tally of 15 styles, all of which were tackled with great
dexterity!!! However our hound was less impressed as he had to be assisted
over each one.
Social distancing was maintained during the ramble and due to present restrictions, unfortunately there was no pub meal at the finish.
