The Lanark Grammar School Young Musician / Singer of the Year 2007-2008 was held in Greyfriars Parish Church on Wednesday 27th February.
After a performance by the Jazz Band, five finalists performed in the Young Singer Competition, while five finalists performed in the Young Musician Competition.
The Young Singer Finalists were Karen Alexander (S5), Joshua Edwards (S4), Leah Burchell (S6), Leon Maxwell (S6) and Rachel Leckie (S6).
The Young Musician Finalists were Jamie Martin (S6) - Cello, Mark O'Donnell (S6) - Guitar, Gillian Ramage (S6) - Drum Kit, Alan Calderwood (S6) - Guitar and Charlotte Printer (S6) - Bassoon.
Guest Adjudicator for the event was Graeme Scott, himself a previous winner of the competition in 1997, and now an accomplished classical guitarist and music teacher.
While the Adjudicator made his final deliberations, the audience were entertained by last years winners, Francis Derrington (Voice) and Euan Laing (Drum Kit).
After commenting that he was extremely proud to be a Lanarkian given the musical talent within the town, and that Lanark Grammar School must be commended on the work it is doing to develop that talent, Graeme provided each of the finalists with feedback on their performances.
He then announced that Rachel Leckie had won the Young Singer title, and Jamie Martin had won the Young Musician title.
