Norwegian Student visit...

YOUNG AMBASSADORS VISIT  - NORWAY

Over the last two weeks the Rotary Club of Kirkcudbright together with its partner Rotary Club, Gamlebyen Rotary Club from Fredrikstad in Norway, has been supporting a student exchange between Kirkcudbright Academy and Kvernhuset School in Norway. This now well established project arranges for four students aged between 14 and 15 years of age to meet and stay for five days in each others homes in Norway and Scotland and spend five days in their homes.

This cultural exchange gives the students the opportunity to visit each other’s schools and spend time in lessons mixing with the students of similar age. The students, known as ‘Young Ambassadors’, also enjoyed a variety of recreational activities and visits to places of interest. In particular, and new to the project in Kirkcudbright this year, was a visit to the Station House Cookery School. Nick Morris, the Cookery School owner was really pleased to be asked by Kirkcudbright Rotary Club to put on a cookery demonstration focusing on Scottish produce as part of their Norwegian Exchange Programme. The students were taught to make pan seared scallops with haggis and crispy apple followed by a lovely Cranachan… which they all then enjoyed eating for their lunch. To finish they all promised to try to make it at home!

Both sets of students will now visit their respective Rotary Clubs and report back to the membership on their experiences over the two weeks.
