Three new baby sponsorships

We are delighted to announce that with help of another generous donation, we are sponsoring three new orphan baby families in Mwanza, near Lake Victoria in Tanzania during Rotary year 2025-2026.

Marisa Matters - Our latest sponsorships via Forever Angels
For this Rotary year we are again able to sponsor three families because of another generous donation has helped us supplement our budget. Amy, our contact in Forever Angels shares the following background into the three families.

Edna and Edwina - August 2025
Edna and Edwina joined our Maisha Matters programme when they were 5 months old and weighed only 4 kilos. Sadly, their Mum died from hypertension when the girls were four months old.  They are in the care of their grandma, Imelda, but she is unable to afford the expensive formula milk needed to keep the twins healthy and properly nourished. Their Mama also left behind two other children, Balling who is 7 years old and Bernada who is 3 who are also being cared for by their grandmother. Imelda is such a loving grandmother.  She brings the girls to our centre each week to collect milk and to have Edna and Edwina weighed.  It is a long journey to her home, but she carries the girls on her back and is such a strong woman! She loves to attend our weekly training workshops as she did not attend school as a young girl and she is enjoying learning all about health and hygiene so she can give her grandchildren the best possible future after a very difficult start in life.

Grayson – August 2025
Grayson’s Mum tragically died from a ruptured uterus two days after he was born, leaving him in the care of his loving grandmother.  Grayson was diagnosed with encephalocele (a wound around his head) but we are not fully convinced it is this and our nurse believes it is more likely to be amniotic band.  We supported his grandmother to get hospital treatment and Grayson is thankfully now much improved. His grandmother, Hidaya, is now his main carer, along with his 4-year-old brother, Joseph.  She is doing a wonderful job but is unable to afford the expensive formula milk needed to keep Grayson healthy.  Thank you so much for supporting Grayson and his grandmother. This remarkable woman shows incredible strength and determination as she works tirelessly to ensure her grandson is healthy and well cared for, despite the many challenges he has already faced.

Faith – August 2025
Faith’s Mum tragically died during childbirth, leaving behind five young children - Gabriel who is 13, Lishindi who is 6, Daniel who is 3, Esther who is just 1 and a newborn baby girl, Faith.  Faith’s Dad is now raising his children, with the help of his neighbour.  With five young children to provide for, he is not able to afford to buy the expensive formula milk needed to keep Faith alive and properly nourished. Faith’s Dad has asked his neighbour to help care for the children so he can try to get some casual work.  Sometimes Dad brings Faith to our centre to collect milk and be weighed, and sometimes his neighbour brings her. Faith’s Dad has tailoring skills so we will help to buy him a sewing machine and materials in a few months so he can provide for his family long term.
