Halima sets up in business

Halima sets up in business now that twins Ariana and Aria are 11 months old.

We have been sponsoring grandmother Halima and the twins Ariana and Aria on a 12-month Forever Angels Marisha Matters programme in Tanzania, leading to self-sufficiency for this charming little family.

The programme started with the most immediate need,  providing life-saving formula milk to the severely malnourished twins  whose mother died in childbirth. The family was then provided with emergency items, mosquito nets, mattresses, blankets, clothes and cooking equipment. Following this, Halima was provided with weekly education and training in hygiene, child development, HIV/AIDS and malaria prevention and primary health care.

And now, as the end of the 12 months approaches Halima has been helped to set up a business in her local community selling dagaa, which is dried fish.  It is a very popular and affordable food for local Tanzanians and since Halima lives near the lake, she believed this would be most profitable. The fish is bought fresh from local fishermen and then dried on a rock.  It is not perishable which makes it a good business venture for this family.  If one of the babies gets sick, or Halima herself is unable to work - her business stock will not be lost.  With ongoing income, Halima will be able to provide for herself and the twins.
