TuT at Hands Fair

Mon, May 27th 2019 at 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

TuTRotary had three stalls this year at HANDS Fair on Twickenham Green, selling plants, books and this year we also had a publicity stand. Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make this year such a great success.

Hands Fair 2019

HANDS Fair is a annual event every late May Bank Holiday Monday, which raises funds for HANDS (Help a Neighbour in Distress) and includes stalls and pitches by charities and non-profit organisations. TuT Rotary has had a plant stall at the Fair since 1992 and the book stall for almost as long, and has developed a good rapport with the local public.

This year 2019 saw us as always with masses of plants, from annuals to shrubs, from geraniums to tomato plants and everything in between! Gardeners of Twickenham and surrounds gathered to enhance their horticultural patches and we were pleased to welcome them with plenty of good humoured chat and discussion. Our book stall was even more well-stocked than previous years with loads of very smart Folio Society books for sale as well as books on subjects from Art and Music to Cookery, infinity and beyond. Every year we are asked questions about what Rotary does and this year we decided it was time to answer you with a stall about Rotary. Our Publicity stall included an example of a Shelterbox including the superb portable wood-burning stove, tools, kitchen equipment and blankets that would be sent to a Disaster area along with a ten person tent. We also had a story board to describe how the local clubs work with the local community and wider world, finishing with the fun we have as members! Visitors to the stalls this year included the Mayor of Richmond Councillor Nancy Baldwin, MP for Twickenham Sir Vince Cable, and Councillor Helen Lee Parsons.

Your donations at our stalls raised over £2300 for Rotary charities and projects, including donations added to our bucket collection for our next Shelterbox. Thank you so much for your support - we really appreciate you.  If you would like to add to our collections, please don't hesitate to click on the link to Give As You Live https://www.everyclick.com/rotarytwickenham/info which will allow you to donate as much or as little as you like.

Please scroll through our photographs of our stalls at HANDS Fair over many years, including some wet ones!
