Freedom March - Ewell Village - 13.07.2024
Some 15 years ago 135 Geo Squadron were given the honorary Freedom of the Borough.
135 Geographic Squadron Royal Engineers is the only unit in the Army Reserve to support 42 Engineer regiment of the British Army. The squadron formed originally in 1948 is a joint force command specialist Royal Engineer unit that provides geographic support to all elements of the UK Defence and have served around the world. The badge depicts the world with an owl sitting on top. 135 Squadron are celebrating their 75 years since their formation and the 25th anniversary of the being granted the Freedom of the Borough and a march was organised to commemorate this.
From 11am the Squadron and the Military Band marched from their Barracks in Welbeck Close travelling along London Road, stopped at the Church and down to the grounds of Bourne Hall, where inspection was carried out and then reversed and marched their way back to the barracks.
Epsom Rotary assisted the event by marshalling the road closures and we were kept on their toes especially as the village seemed somewhat busier that expected.
We did get a mention and vote of thanks whilst the regiment assembled at Bourne Hall which made us feel even more part of the community. Thanks also goes especially to Carol who organised the marshalling - which was initially no easy feat.
