For some years, members of Epsom Rotary Club have attended the annual English Speaking Competition for Schools, organised by the Rotary Club of Chantilly. Now, in collaboration with the Epsom and Ewell Town Twinning Association, we were able to organise this first competition here in Epsom.
The competition is divided into three classes with the senior class being held on 4th November in the Town Hall. 13 competitors attended the Intermediate and Junior event, held in Rosebery School.
Competitors in the Junior Class had to recite from memory a poem in French selected from a list chosen by the judges. The Intermediate Class had to give a short talk about themselves and were then interviewed by the judging panel.
Epsom Rotary and the Town Twinning Association wish to thank the Headteacher, Emma Risby and staff of Rosebery School for supporting the event. We would also like to thank the competitors and teachers and the judges for ensuring the event's evident success.
We plan that this will be an annual event to help pupils improve their French and to encourage international understanding and fellowship through links with our twin town, Chantilly.
