World Polio Day

Sat, Oct 24th 2026 at 9:00 am - 11:00 pm

World Polio Day falls on 24 October 2026, when Rotary clubs worldwide will support the campaign through fundraising.

Polio is a crippling, potentially fatal disease that can paralyse a child within hours. There is no cure. Only prevention.

Rotary launched PolioPlus in 1985 and was a founding member of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative in 1988.  In 1988, polio was paralysing over 350,000 children every single year.

Through decades of commitment and work by Rotary and their partners, that number has dropped by 99.9%.

$3 billion children immunised. $2.9 billion contributed.  Wild polio now remains in only 2 countries.

As of July 7th 2026, the case total is:

Afghanistan 7

Pakistan 3

Rotary is close to eradicating this terrible disease, but close is not enough.

Across the world, Rotary clubs are still fundraising, still advocating and still showing up because Rotary will not stop until every child everywhere is protected.
