Horton Cemetery Heritage Day Saturday 12th September 2026

Please hold the date and accept this invitation to the Horton Cemetery Heritage Day on Saturday 12 September 2026, from 10am to 4pm.

The event, organised by the Friends of Horton Cemetery, will take place across Horton Cemetery and The Horton Arts Centre. It will include exhibitions, short presentations, guided tours and opportunities to meet the researchers uncovering the stories of those buried in the cemetery and the history of Epsom’s five former psychiatric hospitals.

At the cemetery, visitors will hear and read some of the stories of the approximately 9,000 people buried there. Parking will be available at Hook Road Arena, with stewards directing visitors to the bridle path surrounding the cemetery.

At The Horton Arts Centre, large-scale displays and researchers’ presentations will tell further stories. Visitors who believe they may have a relative buried at Horton Cemetery will also be able to ask the team to check its records.

The Arts Centre will additionally host the Freewheelers Theatre and Media Company’s “Us and Them” exhibition, a moving photographic exploration of changing attitudes towards disability, presented within a constructed “asylum hospital” environment.

We very much hope you will be able to join us for what promises to be an important celebration of Epsom’s heritage—and of the lives of people whose stories have too often been forgotten.
