The “Service Above Self Award” is not associated with any Educational Achievement but merely embodies the Rotary ethos of consideration , care and help to those people who will benefit from “a helping hand” at a time of need.
Jesse had been nominated by his teachers as he is such a helpful young ambassador to some of the other children in the school.
Those pupils who are new and trying to find their way about, some of the shyer pupils also new to the school and some who are having to cope with difficult circumstances and need a little support to encourage them to take part and join in with all the school’s activities. Jesse is on hand with his lovely warm smile and his help and encouragement so that they are able to benefit from all the opportunities open to them at St Michael’s.
The Award was made during the School Assembly so that all the pupils’ and Jesse’s grandparents (who were also present) could see Jesse given his award and give him some enthusiastic applause in recognition of all his care and attention to others.
This is the first year that the Rotary club of Ashford have made this award available to all of the Eight primary schools in Ashford and Stanwell and we are hopeful that all of the School’s will find us some worthy recipients for us to reward every year.
