Our Rotary CLASSIC CAR EVENT is held in September and has become more popular each year. This is held on the Clockhouse Lane Recreation Park on the first Saturday in SEPTEMBER. Our last event was very well attended with many beautiful Classic Cars. So many different makes and so prized and looked after beautifully by their owners. We also attracted motorcycles and motor scooters to the event and our Rotarians who were marshalling were helped by our local Boy Scouts, local youth club members, both boys and girls in both arranging the vehicles safely and in erecting various stalls to complement the event and helping generally throughout the day.
This is a joint event with ASHFORD WIDE, they arrange the children’s activities roundabouts, helter skelter slide and other amusements for the children.
We have various stalls in conjunction with Ashford Wide selling all different types of food, burgers, hot dogs, candy floss , ice cream and of course a BAR, most important as looking at hundreds of cars is thirsty work!!
We run a tombola, a raffle and other stalls with interesting items, that give some interest to the ladies and children, whose interest in the cars may flag as the day progresses.
This last year we had a stall with a gentleman, Alan and his wife Kim, Alan makes the most wonderful hand- made walking sticks. We hope he will return for this years’ event in September 24.
Our ROTARY GAZEBO was set up as an information point and we had posters showing our current fund raising activities, particularly QEF, Queen Elizabeth Fund which is based in Leatherhead and all the work it does for so many less abled people not only in Surrey and Sussex but for people who need help throughout the U.K. We also distributed leaflets about Rotary and all our work. It is a surprising thing that Rotary International is one of the biggest charities in the world and is one of the best kept secrets. !!!! We Rotarians need to tell people about all the good things we do throughout the year Not just at Christmas!!!!!
