On Saturday 9th September 2023, we held a Jazz Concert at St Matthew’s Church , in Ashford. The aim of this was to raise some further funds for QEF which was our ongoing charity at the time.
We had a well known band Jools and the Tradaholics who often perfom at the monthly Jazz club in Addlestone. It was a great opportunity to hear some very good live music in a venue which gave a super sound due to the church acoustics. We were fortunate to receive some sponsorship from two of our local councillors Joanne Sexton and Tony Harmon, as hiring a band these days is quite an expensive undertaking. It was a very good night music wise and all those who attended enjoyed the evening. The band’s repertoire was very mixed and there was something of everyone in their programme.
Unfortunately it was not very well supported in the local Community and this was possibly due to that evening being the hottest day of the year, (although it was wonderfully cool in the church). It was also the LAST NIGHT OF THE PROMS and there were several important rugby and football events taking place. So some very stiff competition, which we feel contributed to the rather small numbers.
We were very grateful to Father Stuart for the use of St Matthews Church as it was such a superb venue and for the permission to run a small bar so that we could supply cooling drinks to everyone who attended on that very ,very hot evening.
