Judging of the local entries from Hawick High School students for Rotary's Young Artist competition took place at the School on Wednesday 25th February. Judges were Mairhi Trickett, Club President and a member of Hawick Art Club, Jacqui Martin (Rotarian), and Bob Bigwood (Art Club member).
The competition is divided into Intermediate category – ages 11 to 13, and Senior – 14 to 17. There was a larger number of entries at Intermediate as Senior students have been focused on their material for national examinations later in the term.
The theme set for this year's competition was Happiness in Nature.
Senior winner was Robbie Drysdale, with Grace Marshall in second place, and Maisie McLeod third. At Intermediate level, Bethany Johnston took first place, Jay McLeod second, and Annabel Buchanan third.
All six of these pieces of artwork will be delivered to Eyemouth where District 1230 (South Scotland) organiser James Hettrick will oversee the judging of the District Final.
Staff in Hawick High School's Art Department, led by Ms Suzanne Alderson, were warmly thanked by Hawick Rotary's Youth Convenor Ron Smith, for their help and cooperation with this competition.
An Award Ceremony was held in the school on Friday 13th March when the three winners in each category were presented with their certificates and with cash prizes by Hawick Rotary's President Mairhi Trickett.
