Local heat of Rotary's Primary School Quiz

The Rotary Primary School Quiz competition, organised and promoted by Rotary District 1320, Scotland South, is open to teams of four from local schools in this first round.

This year the quiz was held on 20th January at the Hawick Rugby Club lounge and the following teams turned up to compete: Denholm, Burnfoot, Wilton, two teams from Trinity, two from Drumlanrig and four from Stirches. That was 11 teams with 44 pupils pitting their wits.

There were ten rounds of six questions with subjects including Language and Literacy, Geography, History, Local Knowledge. This local event was organised by Hawick Rotary's Secretary Andy Tyler with other members of the Club facilitating the quiz and marking the papers.

As last year, Wilton School won the tournament followed by Denholm and Trinity. Those three teams will now go forward to the Borders Area Final to be held later in the school term.

The victorious Wilton team consisted of Ollie McLeod, Hugo Armstrong, Sam Cranston, Ruaraidh Turnbull, and are accompanied in their photo by Rotarian Linden Warburton who presented them with certificates and a book token at their school afterwards.

All of the pupils who attended are to be congratulated on their involvement and their enthusiasm.
