Club members divide this week with some attending Langholm Rotary Burns Night

On Thursday 15th January, Langholm Rotary Club held their Burns Supper which was well attended. Four Hawick Rotarians, Gus Neilson, Andy Tyler, Nicky Bell and George Thorburn attended as guests and the main entertainment was from two Teri Stalwarts, Michael Aitken and Bernie Armstrong.

A traditional “kale” soup and haggis, neeps and tatties were served and piped in for what was a traditional and very enjoyable Burns Night.

Bernie’s Immortal Memory was very humorous. It would have been considered risqué a few years ago but neither by Burns nor Bernie. Michael gave an outstanding rendering of Tam O' Shanter, worthy of a Shakespearean award and his singing was, as usual impressive too. It was significant that his Star of Rabbie Burns song was not written by Burns but by a Teri, James Thomson, and first sung in The Holland House back room in Drumlanrig Square, Hawick in 1794, two years before the death of Burns.

The remaining members of Hawick Rotary enjoyed a 'Bite and Blether' at Mansfield House Hotel.
