On 17th December, the local Young Musician competition took place at High School. There were nine entrants, with a variety of instruments: some unaccompanied, several with piano accompaniment and others with recorded backing track. Judges were Gus Neilson and George Thorburn from Hawick Rotary and Sam Johnston of Sparks, Selkirk, and they commented on the high quality of entries. This competition is open to solo artistes, either vocalists or instrumentalists, with an age limit of 17. Equal First places were awarded to Sophie Bell and Carly Wolf, with Chloe Bell, Lucy Oliver, Matthew Rudkin and Josh Thomson being declared Highly Commended. Hawick Rotary's Youth Convenor thanked HHS staff Scott Henderson, Ila Bagapura and Stacey Grieve , and the judges, before awarding prizes.
