On Thursday 14th August, the club met at Mansfield House Hotel and President Mairhi Trickett opened the meeting by welcoming guests and inviting Nick Bell to become the latest member of the club which he duly accepted.
After dinner Scott Elliot then welcomed his guest, Frankie Scott who needed no introduction to the members. Frankie opened his talk by describing himself as being “A broken doon clerk of works on a busman’s holiday”. He said that he had three years ago become a judge of annual awards for The Painting and Decorating Association. He, like the rest of us, had never heard of the association or its awards but his illustrated talk showed dozens of projects being judged around the country. There are seven categories in the competition and jobs viewed ranged from railway stations to hotels to lighthouses, churches, colleges, offices and reception halls and much more
Frankie is one of only nine judges in the UK and the sites he visited were throughout the North of England and in Scotland. He judged with another colleague from Blyth. The final awards are presented at a dinner in the very grand Plasterers Hall in the City of London. Gus Neilson gave the vote of thanks to Frankie and the President closed with the traditional toast to Rotary the World over.
