Hawick Rotary held its annual Scots Night at Mansfield House Hotel on 30th January. After the customary meal of haggis, neeps and tatties for most of the company, and a welcome from President Iain Smith, entertainments officer Tommy Mulvee compered proceedings.
As well as accompanying himself on guitar while he sang several songs – 'Stay a while wi' me' and 'Calling doon the line' - he introduced George Thorburn who sang 'The Star o' Rabbie Burns' and a medley of Scots songs. Jane Cox then read two of Will Ogilvie's poems and Jim Walker sang 'The Song of the Clyde'. Ron Smith performed 'The Wee Cock Sparra' and 'The Welly Boot Song' before testing those attending with local and Scots questions in a Quiz. The winning team consisted of Jim & Roslyn Walker and Linden & Tony Warburton.
This was an enjoyable evening with in-house entertainment and the Vote of Thanks was given by George Hogg.
