At their Club meeting on Thursday 12th, Rotarians heard from Gordon Hill, who was accompanied by his wife Christine and by dog Bridie, about the process of puppy training of Guide Dogs for the Blind. Bridie, now seven months old, was born at a Guide Dog Association breeding centre near Leamington Spa. After a process of assessment – of both dog and of prospective trainers – she was matched with Gordon and Christine. She accompanies them everywhere, in a full range of situations, to get her used to being beside a blind person in the future. This was a most interesting talk, with some surprises! For example, she should not be thrown a ball as chasing one while with a blind person could have disastrous consequences. There were many questions from members, and a donation will be made to Guide Dogs Association
